Godman Changur Baba: Accused of Over 1500 Hindu Women Converted to Islam

Jamaluddin alias Changur Baba was once a seller of rings and amulets on a bicycle. Now, he has funds worth 106 crore. He has this money spread across 40 bank accounts, along with  two properties worth crores. He has now been identified as the mastermind of a vicious conversion gang, which victimized thousands of women.

Street Vendor to Crorepati

Changur Baba and his close aide Neetu Rohra alias Nasreen have been handed over to ATS on 7-day remand. According to the ATS, Changur has converted about 1500 women and girls. These included childless, widowed, abandoned and mentally challenged women. He first trapped them in the name of shelter, miracle and treatment. Then, he slowly brainwashed them and forced them to change their religion. Even now there are many people who consider him ‘Peer’, ‘Ruhani Baba’ and ‘Messiah’.

Law Enforcement Cracks Down upon Pir Baba

The UP Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) is also probing if the gang has any terror links. The UP Special Task Force (STF), which registered a case against the gang, is also investigating the matter. The local police are also probing other people allegedly involved in the gang in Balrampur. Besides these three agencies, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has registered a case. They want to find out the earnings of Changur Baba, who is also known as Pir Baba. The case was registered at the Lucknow unit of ED on Tuesday. It is based on a sudden spike in Jamaluddin’s earnings.

Dawah Network Planned

Changur Baba was also planning to establish an organized Islamic Dawah network on the Indo-Nepal border. Funding for this had also started coming from abroad. Some followers had even started public programs to convert to Islam in many cities. Two years ago, a case was also registered against some of his relatives in Azamgarh for illegal conversion.

(Dawah is to invite someone to the deen of Allah, it can be done to both Muslims and non-Muslims.)

Lavish Lifestyle

On Wednesday, authorities bulldozed his property in Balrampur, which was no less than a palace. Officials who went there for the investigation found daily use products packed in Urdu. They also discovered Spanish oil imported from Dubai. Additionally, there were medicines to increase physical strength, along with foreign detergents, perfumes, and food items.

According to sources, Changur Baba’s network is spread across Maharashtra and Dubai. Naveen Vohra was his first victim. Neetu Rohra alias Nasreen was also victimized. Through them, he laid the foundation of this network of conversion. ATS suspects that Changur Baba’s closest associate Mohammad Ahmed Khan has been the main mastermind of his financial dealings.

A secret control room was found inside the bungalow. The 15 CCTV cameras of the entire house were monitored from this room. Baba’s bedroom was also a kind of operation room, where recording of every person entering inside was done. ATS has also recovered some sensitive documents from his room.

CM Yogi calls for ‘No Leniency’

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Tuesday that the “initial probe” has shown the activities of accused Jamaluddin are “against society.” These activities are against society. They are “also against the nation.”

The chief minister asserted that there will be no leniency in matters related to law and order in the state. He stated, “The properties of the accused and other criminals linked to his gang will be seized. Strict legal action will be taken against them.”
