India Sends Diesel to China for First Time Since 2021 Amid EU Sanctions on Nayara

Russia-backed Nayara energy, an Indian refinery faces European sanctions for its Crude procurement from Russia. To control damage, it is sending shipments to China, for the first time since 2021.

Nayara energy, which has Russian connections, faces EU sanctions. Amid this development, Nayara exports a shipment of Indian diesel to China. This marks the first such delivery since 2021. It adds to the revival of the two Asian countries’ relations amidst their increasing closeness and US tariff tensions.

EM Zenith Originally Departed for Malaysia

EM zenith was originally destined to head towards Malaysia. It left the nation’s border just prior to European Union’s imposed sanctions. These sanctions were part of its intensified measures against Russian oil commerce. Consequently, the Ship changed its route in the Strait of Malacca. It remained anchored for approximately 12 days. Several Nayara’s cargoes were affected by EU sanctions. Thereafter the vessel changed its destination to Zhoushan, China according to Bloomberg report.

The vessel EM Zenith departed from Nayara’s Vadinar terminal on July 18. It carried approximately 496,000 barrels of ultra-low sulfur diesel. This was reported by Kpler, a port agent document, and vessel tracking information gathered by Bloomberg.

Tough Times for Nayara Energy

The largest public sector Bank of India is the State Bank of India. It has discontinued processing international trade and forex transactions for Nayara Energy. This is due to the recent US tariffs. This decision was taken to prevent Potential US and European Union sanctions. As US has imposed additional 25% tariffs on India for trading Russian oil crude.

The SBI’s stance on Nayara Energy showcases the Bank’s efforts to carefully handle the issue when such circumstances arise. The shipment export to China happened amidst the increasing closeness between the two Asian Giants.
