IndiGo flight makes emergency landing at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar after woman dies on board
NEW DELHI: An IndiGo Airlines flight from Mumbai to Varanasi made an emergency landing at Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar airport. This occurred after an 89-year-old passenger died onboard on Sunday night.
The passenger was Sushila Devi from Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh. She began feeling unwell during the flight. This prompted the emergency landing at Chikalthana Airport around 10 pm.
A medical team that examined the passenger upon landing confirmed she had already passed away. The MIDC CIDCO police station completed the necessary formalities before the flight continued its journey to Varanasi.
The deceased passenger’s body was transferred to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, according to airline officials.
In a separate incident last month, a Chennai-bound flight from Jaipur experienced a tyre burst before its scheduled landing. The pilot detected the issue and alerted authorities, leading to an emergency landing procedure. All passengers and crew members deplaned safely following the incident.
Officials noted that during a visual inspection of the aircraft, they discovered damage to wheel no 2. Tyre pieces were coming out from the tyre-left interior. The authorities followed standard emergency landing protocols after receiving the pilot’s alert about the tyre burst.
