Safety Concerns May Delay India’s Cricket Series in Bangladesh

Ever since the change of power in Bangladesh, the atmosphere in our neighbouring country has been chaotic. In view of the situation there, the Indian cricket team’s Bangladesh tour may be postponed. It is scheduled for next month. The players’ safety is not guaranteed. The government may make an official statement soon. This could put the tour on hold.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will collaborate with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). They will decide together regarding the upcoming series. There is a possibility that the series will not be cancelled. Both cricket boards may instead agree to postpone the series.

The BCB has also postponed the bidding of media rights for the series. This shows that it is fully aware of the circumstances and the probability of the series being postponed.

According to the proposed schedule, India was to play a three-match ODI series from August 17 on the Bangladesh tour. Both countries were also to play 3 T20 matches after the ODI series.

Security Concerns

Ever since the ouster of Sheikh Hasina and the change of government in Bangladesh, the country’s atmosphere has been unsafe. Riots continued even after the change of power and can still be seen. In these circumstances, the Indian government is likely to decide. They may not send the Indian cricket team to Bangladesh.

Currently, an interim government is functioning in Bangladesh under Muhammad Yunus.

Political Relations

The current political relations of India and Pakistan can also be another reason for postponement of the series. The current head of the Bangladesh government, Muhammad Yunus, has made several statements against India. In the last few months, he has been seen distancing himself from India and moving closer to China and Pakistan.
