Los Angeles, June 10 – The U.S. President has ordered a substantial increase in military presence in Los Angeles. This is in response to intensifying protests over immigration policies. Trump Authorizes Surge in Troop Deployment

President Donald Trump has directed the Department of Defense to send an additional 2,000 National Guard personnel to California. The deployment will focus on the Los Angeles area. They are being sent to support federal immigration authorities. This is in addition to the roughly 2,100 Guard members already activated under federal orders.

Around 1,000 troops had already been deployed by midday Monday. Reports indicate this was the case. The rest are expected to arrive by the end of the day. California Attorney General Rob Bonta directly challenged the federal order. He announced a lawsuit on Monday. The goal is to halt the National Guard deployment. The suit was filed in federal court in San Francisco. It argues that the President lacks the constitutional authority to mobilize state-based troops for this purpose without consent.

Governor Gavin Newsom echoed these concerns, labeling the deployment “unlawful” and “immoral.” He confirmed that his office is preparing additional legal actions against what he termed a federal overreach.

Pentagon Finalizing Rules for Marine Engagement

The military buildup is continuing. The Pentagon is reportedly drafting specific operational guidelines for the Marines’ conduct while in Los Angeles. According to defense sources, these protocols may include provisions for temporarily detaining civilians. This would occur if troops face imminent threats. These measures may also be taken to protect federal property. However, such actions would require coordination with local law enforcement.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth initiated the deployment after consulting with General Dan Caine. General Dan Caine is the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. This indicates the seriousness of the federal government’s response to the unrest.

Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell expressed concern over the lack of communication from federal authorities. He stated that the LAPD had not received any formal notice of the Marines’ arrival. He warned that uncoordinated military presence could lead to further complications on the ground.

Meanwhile, Mayor Karen Bass criticized the federal move. She stated, “Our city is being used as a test ground by Washington.” She also raised concerns about the implications for community safety.
