Shikhar Dhawan Launches Autobiography: Cricket, Life & More
Former India opener Shikhar Dhawan has recently launched his autobiography The One: Cricket, My Life and More.
Inside the book, he has shared the story of his first meeting with former skipper MS Dhoni. This meeting took place during his much-awaited ODI debut series against Australia in 2010. Dhawan’s Test debut was in 2013 under Dhoni’s captaincy, in which he scored a record 187 runs against Australia. But he got a place in India’s ODI team for the first time in October 2010. He met Dhoni in the Indian dressing room for the first time.
With long hair and an easy smile, the then captain Dhoni looked like a film hero, writes Dhawan. I wanted to cast him in a Bollywood film. We were discussing my inspiration. Suddenly, I said, ‘I want to play for India and make you a Bollywood hero!’ Hearing this, Dhoni couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
Dhawan also revealed a funny incident with Rohit Sharma in his autobiography. Dhawan once secretly took his girlfriend to the room he was sharing with Rohit.
Shikhar Dhawan’s debut match was to be played in Kochi, but was canceled due to rain. Dhawan wrote, The night before the first match, I had so much nervous energy. I couldn’t sleep the whole night. But when I woke up in the morning, it was raining heavily and all my hopes were dashed.
The third match of the series was also washed out in Margao. Dhawan could play only in the second match. He was out in two balls in that match.
Later, Dhawan became the top run-scorer in India’s 2013 Champions Trophy win. He played 34 Tests (2315 runs), 167 ODIs (6793 runs), and 68 T20s (1759 runs) for India.
