Command, Courage, Clarity: Operation Sindoor Booklet Released by Indian Army Sets Record Straight

The Indian Army, on 26th May, published a 10 page booklet with details and visuals of Operation Sindoor. The operation was launched after the brutal Pahalgam attack on 22nd April, 2025. In the name of religion, 5 terrorists murdered 26 people- twenty five Indians and one Nepali citizen. The Resistance Front is an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba. It is an organisation India has been demanding to be recognised as a terror group. It claimed responsibility for the attack. The incident was linked to Pakistan right away.

The booklet highlighted the immediate response taken by the government which included:

  • Termination of the Indus Water Treaty, 1960 : India suspended the water sharing treaty. This will remain until Pakistan takes credible measures to stop cross-border terrorism.
  • The integrated check post at Attari Wagah Border was closed.
  • All bilateral trade was stopped : This put economic pressure on an already struggling Pakistan.
  • Visas revoked : India revoked visas of all Pakistanis residing in the country and deported them immediately. Pakistani nationals will not be permitted to travel to India under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) visas.
  • Ban on Pakistani Artists : India suspended all performances, screenings, music releases, and cultural exchanges. This action effectively erased Pakistan’s cultural influence in India.
  • The Defence/Military, Naval, and Air Advisors in the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi were declared Persona Non Grata. This action was taken at the High Commission. This decision reflects diplomatic tensions. The advisors were declared Persona Non Grata. The overall strength of the High Commissions will be brought down to 30 from the present 55 through further reductions.
  • The Armed Forces were given free rein to respond how they deem best.

The Strike

After receiving multi-agency intelligence, 9 sites were targeted in Operation Sindoor on May 7. Seven of these were targeted by the Army and two by the Air Force. These were centres of Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba. These included Sawai Nala, Syedna Bilal, Kotli Abbas, Kotli Gulpur, Bhimber, Mehmoona Joya, Sarjal, Muridke, and Bahawalpur. The mission was completed in just 23 minutes. Rafale jets, SCALP missiles, and HAMMER bombs were used. This was achieved without crossing the Line of Control or international boundary. Over 100 terrorists were killed in action.

On the night of 07-08 May 2025, Pakistan attempted to engage several military targets in Northern and Western India. These included Awantipura, Srinagar, and Jammu. Other targets were Pathankot, Amritsar, and Kapurthala. Additionally, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, and Chandigarh were targeted. Pakistan also targeted Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj using drones and missiles. More than 300 drones were reduced to rubble, with debris images released in the booklet. The credit goes to India’s layered air defence system. This system included MRSAMs, Akash missiles, Akashteer C&R, and OSA-AK combat vehicles.

India’s counteroffensive on the night of May 9 and 10, 2025, became a historic milestone. For the first time, a country successfully attacked the air bases of a nuclear-armed nation. Within just three hours, India targeted 11 military installations. As a result, nearly 20% of Pakistan’s air force infrastructure was destroyed. With several key runways damaged and aircraft grounded, Pakistan’s ability to respond was severely diminished.

The Command Centre

The Army also shared photographs of the operation room or command centre. This was where the three army chiefs were actively monitoring the operation, analysing drone footage, satellite imagery and operational updates. Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi supervises the operation. Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi and Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh supervise the operation alongside him. They are leading it effectively.

The Nation’s spirit

All over India, citizens showcased intelligence by understanding the bait to communal tensions and responding with roars of unity. People from every corner of the country showed support for the Indian Armed Forces and solidarity against terrorism.

In the digital sphere, India’s vigilance helped thwart Pakistan’s misinformation war with fact checks. They exposed manipulation tactics and promoted media literacy. They also conducted regular press briefings and used verified digital channels of information.

Our veterans continued their duty beyond the battlefield by going onto news channels, social media platforms, newspapers etc. They exposed Pakistani propaganda with their interviews, articles, and podcasts. Many of them volunteered to step up again and join the forces during this conflict.

The International stage

The global community has clearly backed India’s stance, recognizing its efforts to combat terrorism and maintain regional stability.

The UK, Russia, Israel, and the US declared their support to counter-terrorism. France, the Netherlands, Japan, and Saudi Arabia also declared their support. Additionally, the UAE, Iran, Qatar, and Panama showed their agreement. Furthermore, Sri Lanka, the EU, Maldives, and Palestine expressed their support. Seven members of Parliament are leading India’s delegations in its international outreach for zero-tolerance against terrorism.

The booklet also dedicates an entire page to unnamed heroes of our forces. They made it possible for us to emerge victorious. More than a report, this booklet is a salute to our Armed Forces- their strategic brilliance and indomitable spirit.
