COAS Gen Upendra Dwivedi Outlines Five Pillars of Transformation for Future-Ready Armed Forces

Indian Army’s Roadmap for Modernization

Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi has highlighted the Five Pillars of Transformation. He has focused on technology absorption and structural reforms. Human resource development and enhanced inter-service cohesion are also emphasized. Gen Dwivedi was speaking at the valedictory ceremony of the Higher Defence Management Course (HDMC-20). The event took place at the College of Defence Management (CDM) in Secunderabad. He laid out a comprehensive vision for shaping the Indian Army into a future-ready combat force.

COAS highlighted the Army’s commitment to becoming a technologically advanced, agile, and self-reliant force. He emphasized shifting from a process-driven to an outcome-oriented approach. This ensures the Army transitions from measuring performance to evaluating effectiveness. He elaborated on the Army’s transformation through three key phases. The phases are Era of Transition, Era of Consolidation, and Era of Control.

Strengthening India’s Defence Preparedness

Gen Dwivedi emphasized that the Armed Forces must be mobile and agile. They should also be technologically competent. This capability is essential to contribute effectively to national security. It aligns with India’s vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047 through self-reliance (Atmanirbharta). He reiterated that the military should remain a pillar of national power and a trusted security partner in the region.

The HDMC-20 course saw the participation of 167 officers. This included 14 officers from friendly foreign nations. The course equipped them with strategic leadership skills, management expertise, and policy-making acumen. The COAS addressed the officers on the transformation of the armed forces. He emphasized their responsibilities in nation-building. He also stressed the need to uphold the principles of Truth, Trust, and Transparency to tackle future challenges effectively.

Recognizing Excellence and Future Leadership

Gen Dwivedi recognized meritorious officers for their outstanding performance. He acknowledged their academic excellence. He also acknowledged their strategic contributions. The event was attended by senior military officials, faculty members, and distinguished guests, highlighting the significance of the occasion.

With this training, the graduating officers are now prepared to take on key command and staff roles. They will apply the strategic knowledge and insights gained at CDM. This will further India’s national security and defence management objectives.
