India–Indonesia Close to Sign $450 Million BrahMos Deal, Defence Minister Gifts Missile Replica
Indonesia’s Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin’s visit to India provided significant momentum. It contributed to the rapidly expanding defence partnership between the two nations. Both sides place strong emphasis on the prospective BrahMos supersonic cruise missile deal. Sources indicate the negotiations with Jakarta have now reached an advanced stage. Indonesia has been keen on acquiring BrahMos for several years. It is awaiting the final nod from Russia to seal the pact.
Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh co-chaired the third India-Indonesia Defence Ministers’ Dialogue with Minister of Defense of Indonesia Mr Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin. This event took place in New Delhi on November 27, 2025. They reaffirmed the long-standing strategic partnership. They deepened bilateral defence co-operation. The two Ministers recalled President of Indonesia Mr Prabowo Subianto’s visit to India. He was the Chief Guest of the Republic Day Celebrations 2025. They noted that the discussions between Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and President Subianto were productive. The talks were wide-ranging during the visit. The outcomes have led to further strengthening of the India-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. They also recalled the participation of 352 personnel from the Indonesian Armed Forces in the Republic Day Celebrations.
New Delhi is on the verge of finalizing BrahMos export deals. These deals are worth nearly USD 450 million with multiple friendly countries. Government sources say almost all formalities are complete. The agreements are likely to be signed soon. This marks one of India’s biggest defence export milestones to date. The Indonesian contract is expected to be among the most strategically significant.
During the visit, India’s Defence Minister presented Sjamsoeddin with a finely crafted replica of the BrahMos missile. This gesture was symbolic and underscored mutual trust. It also highlighted India’s readiness to deepen high-technology defence cooperation. The gift was a strong signal. It showed India’s confidence in the future trajectory of the BrahMos partnership with Indonesia.

The missile proposal had featured prominently in the January summit. This took place between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. It reflects its priority status for both governments.
Indonesia is looking beyond missile sales. They are exploring India as a major Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) hub for their Air Force. Additionally, they consider it for Navy platforms. India already provides assistance in maintaining Jakarta’s Sukhoi fighter fleet. The cooperation is expected to expand to a broader range of aircraft. It will also include naval assets. Enhanced MRO collaboration will strengthen interoperability and deepen security cooperation across the Indian Ocean region.
