Indian security agencies are on high alert. This follows a threat alert issued by the Pakistan Intelligence Bureau (PIB). The alert warns of an Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) plot to kidnap foreigners for ransom. The alert comes amid the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, held in Pakistan. This raises serious concerns for international players. It also affects officials and spectators.
According to the PIB alert, ISKP operatives plan to target foreigners. They are focusing particularly on Chinese and Arab nationals. The targets include ports, airports, offices, and residences often used by international visitors. The terror outfit reportedly intends to conduct surveillance on these locations before executing their abduction plans. ISKP plans involve renting hideouts in the outskirts of cities, accessible only via motorcycles and rickshaws, with no CCTV coverage. Once kidnapped, victims will be moved between safe houses at night using motorcycles or rickshaws to evade detection.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan’s General Directorate of Intelligence (GDI) has issued a warning. They alert about impending ISKP attacks on important locations within Afghanistan. Authorities there have begun tracking missing ISKP members and increasing security at public places.
India’s Response: Heightened Vigilance
India’s intelligence and security agencies are closely monitoring the situation, given the potential regional impact. Indian intelligence agencies have been directed to assess ISKP’s activities. They are focusing on any cross-border links. These links pose a threat to India.
Security experts believe that the immediate threat is focused on Pakistan and Afghanistan. Yet, India can’t afford to be complacent. This is especially true with ISKP’s history of targeting South Asian nations. Indian embassies and businesses abroad have been advised to take extra precautions.
With tensions escalating, India continues to closely track developments and coordinate with friendly nations to counter the growing ISKP threat.
