Indian Army Fast Tracks Procurement of Advanced Radars for Northern and Western Borders

Pakistan managed to breach into Indian airspace using a variety of drones. These include surveillance, UAV, and Camouflage drones. The Indian Army is planning to enhance its surveillance network along the northern and western borders.

The new capabilities include detecting, tracking, and engaging aerial objects with new low radar cross-section (LRCS). They integrate with the Akashteer Air Defence Network. This enhances surveillance and responses against hostilities.

The Indian army aims to obtain 45 Low Level Light Weight Radars (Enhanced) (LLLR-E). They also plan to procure 48 Air Defence Fire Control Radar- Drone Detector (ADFCR-DD). Additionally, they intend to acquire 10 Low Level Light Weight Radars (Improved) (LLLR-I).

LLLR-I will be a 3D Active Electronically Scanned Array. It will have the ability to work in mountains and deserts. It can detect aerial targets within 50km and track more than 100 targets. LLLR-E is similar with an additional Electro Optical Tracking System (EOTS). This system enables it to pick up signals from low radar drones. It has the ability to track both day and night within a 10 km range.

ADFCR-DD includes search radar, track radar, and identification of friend or foe capabilities. It will control at least 2 L/70. Additionally, it will feed target data to (VSHORADS) Very Short-Range Air Defence Systems. Present L/70, ZU28 and Shilka guns performed exceptionally well during Operation Sindoor. Pairing with advanced and modern fire control radars enhances defence and attack capabilities.
