Smriti Irani’s Return in ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ Reboot Breaks the Internet

The show ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ ruled the Indian television serials in its prime. The original run of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi spanned more than 1,500 episodes. It became one of Indian television’s longest-running shows. It is also among the most iconic. After years of anticipation, the show is getting a reboot, confirmed Star Plus. As the original series recently celebrated its 25th anniversary on July 3, excitement reached a fever pitch. The makers dropped the first look of Smriti Irani as Tulsi Virani from the new edition of the show. Beloved star Amar Upadhyay will return as Mihir Virani.

Promo Brings a Wave of Nostalgia

A promotional clip was shared online by the makers of the show with a stirring caption. It spoke of Tulsi Virani’s return and the series’ transformation into a new story while retaining its old emotional depth.

The video opened with a family of four. They were sharing memories of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi while enjoying a meal at a restaurant. Then, the screen shifts to Tulsi at home, gently watering a tulsi plant. She solemnly reveals the show’s long-awaited return after a gap of 25 years. This brings a sense of full-circle closure to fans.

Smriti Irani Comments

Smriti Irani shared her thoughts about the show. She said, “When I first stepped into Tulsi’s world, I couldn’t have imagined the reach of her story. It traveled far. It reached not just into living rooms, but into the hearts of millions across India. Tulsi wasn’t just a character. She became a daughter, a mother, a friend—and, for many, a reflection of their own strength, sacrifice, and conviction”.

In the early 2000s, without hashtags or social media, ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ didn’t just trend, it became tradition.

She further mentioned, “It broke every metric of success not through numbers alone, but through emotion. Families paused their lives to watch it together. Debates, laughter, and tears flowed around one name, Tulsi. Even when she left the screen, Tulsi never truly left the audience. Strangers continued to meet me not as Smriti, but as Tulsi, because she lived on in memories, rituals, and homes. That kind of legacy isn’t scripted. It’s received, with folded hands and a grateful heart”.

“And now, years later, life comes full circle—not to recreate the past, but to rekindle an emotion that never truly faded. Tulsi returns not just as a character, but as a feeling. A memory. A connection that stood the test of time. In an age where stories travel fast but meaning is fleeting, this return is an invitation—to pause, to remember, and to feel. Once again”, she added.

Netizens React on Social Media

Users took to social media to express their opinions over the show’s return.

A user stated, “Kuch yaadein har ek cheese ke beyond hai. This show is legacy and childhood memories. The family together ❤️ its “pure emotion”. ”Another user quipped, “Ab milega Anupama ko barabar ka takkar.” A third user remarked, “I’m literally tearing up – my childhood is coming back! ❤️🥹 Beyond excited and feeling super nostalgic.”

Another said, “Har gali, har ghar se, phir se Balaji Telefilms ka iconic music bajega. Har ghar pe raaj hoga @ektarkapoor ka. My late grandmother used to be glued to BT’s serials from 8:30 to 11:30 PM. Best wishes. I wish Hum Paanch made a comeback.”

“Dekhiye #KyunkiSaasBhiKabhiBahuThi, 29th July se, raat 10:30 baje, sirf StarPlus paraur kabhi bhi JioHotstar par.”
