Kedarnath Temple Doors Reopen with Sacred Chants and Flower Shower

Temple Opens for Devotees Amid Religious Fervor

The sacred Kedarnath Temple in Uttarakhand has officially reopened its doors to pilgrims. The rituals began early Friday morning with Vedic chants and ceremonial prayers. As the sanctum gates were unlocked, chants of “Har Har Mahadev” filled the air. Flower petals were showered from a helicopter in a grand gesture of welcome. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami was also present during the auspicious event.

Thousands of Pilgrims Gather for Darshan

The Panchmukhi Utsav Doli (five-faced ceremonial idol) of Lord Kedarnath reached the temple on Thursday. This happened before the official opening. Over 15,000 devotees had arrived at the site to witness the event. As the doors opened, the valley echoed with devotional chants of “Bam Bam Bhole”. The temple was adorned with 108 quintals of flowers, creating a breathtaking visual spectacle.

Security and Preparations Under Tight Vigilance

Ahead of the reopening, Uttarakhand’s Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Kumar and Additional Director General (ADG) V. Murugesan conducted on-site inspections of security arrangements at both Badrinath and Kedarnath shrines. Rudraprayag Superintendent of Police, Akshay Pralhad Konde, briefed them on the measures in place.

Crowd Management with Token System

To manage the anticipated rush of devotees, a token-based entry system has been implemented from day one of the pilgrimage. The DGP instructed an increase in token counters. He emphasized the use of public announcement systems and display screens to inform pilgrims about their slot timings. He also stressed proper deployment of ATS units and paramilitary forces to ensure safety.

Restrictions on Mobile Phones in Temple Premises

New guidelines have been issued for pilgrims this season. The use of mobile phones is strictly prohibited within a 30-meter radius of the Kedarnath Temple. Any individual found recording reels or taking photographs may have their device confiscated and face a fine of ₹5,000.

Annual Reopening After Winter Closure

Each year, due to heavy snowfall in the winter, the doors of Kedarnath Temple are closed during the cold months. With the arrival of summer, the temple reopens, and devotees once again receive blessings from Lord Kedarnath.
