Army Personnel Held in Connection with Jalandhar Grenade Attack on YouTuber Rozer Sandhu

Punjab Police has achieved a major breakthrough. They have taken a 30-year-old Indian Army jawan, Sukhcharan Singh, into custody. He is allegedly involved in the March 16 grenade attack targeting the home of popular Jalandhar-based YouTuber Rozer Sandhu. Fortunately, the grenade failed to detonate. This averted any casualties or damage. Authorities are treating the attempt as a serious security concern.

According to police sources, Singh comes from Muktsar. He has served in the Army since 2015. Singh is believed to have instructed the prime accused, Hardik Kamboj, on how to operate the grenade. Investigators claim the two individuals connected over social media. Singh allegedly provided guidance via video call on removing the pin from the explosive device.

Jalandhar Rural SSP Harvinder Singh Virk confirmed that Singh’s name surfaced during Kamboj’s interrogation. To date, nine people have been arrested in the case, with Singh now officially listed as an accused. He has been remanded to five days in police custody by a local court.

Following protocol, Punjab Police secured a non-bailable warrant before approaching Singh’s Army unit. The Indian Army, in a public statement, acknowledged the jawan’s handover and affirmed full cooperation with the investigation.

“The matter regarding a soldier’s alleged involvement has come to attention. The Punjab Police presented a non-bailable warrant to the concerned Army unit. The individual has been transferred to their custody for further inquiry. The Army is extending all necessary support to assist with the investigation,” the statement read.

SSP Virk also confirmed that the Army had received an official notification. This notification concerned the soldier’s suspected role as part of the legal process.

This case has a troubling international dimension. Pakistani gangster Shahzad Bhatti has reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack. He did so allegedly in response to offensive comments about Islam made by the YouTuber.

Tensions further escalated in Jalandhar. There was a second grenade attack on April 8 at the residence of BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia. Investigators are probing whether the two incidents are connected.
