Delhi Fire Services Chief Refutes Cash Recovery Comment

New Delhi: Delhi Fire Services Director Atul Garg has firmly denied reports. These reports suggested he confirmed that no cash was found during firefighting efforts. This incident occurred at the residence of Delhi High Court Judge Yashwant Varma. His clarification came after a PTI report attributed such a statement to him, sparking public confusion.

Clarification from Fire Department

According to the initial report by PTI, Garg was quoted saying that firefighters did not come across any cash. They reportedly found nothing while dealing with the fire at the judge’s official residence. The report claimed that firefighters completed their task, informed the police, and then left the location. However, Garg later dismissed this claim, stating, “The statement being circulated by PTI does not reflect my words.”

Controversy Surrounding Alleged Cash Discovery

The issue gained traction amid reports. Substantial amounts of cash were allegedly found at Justice Varma’s residence during the incident. Following these claims, the Supreme Court collegium has launched an internal inquiry. However, the court has clarified that Justice Varma’s transfer to the Allahabad High Court is part of standard administrative procedures. It is not connected to the alleged cash recovery.

Supreme Court Addresses Misinformation

In an official statement, the Supreme Court expressed concern over rumors circulating regarding the incident. The court emphasized that decisions on judicial transfers are unrelated to the incident. It warned against drawing unwarranted links between the two.

Fire Department’s Role Concluded After Firefighting

The Delhi Fire Department has reiterated its process. Once the fire was brought under control, the site was handed over to the police. This was for further investigation. The department confirmed that its personnel were not involved in any subsequent search or recovery actions at the location.
