Holi Coincides with Ramzan after 64 years: Tight Security from Sambhal to Delhi

With the festivals of Holi and the Friday prayers of Ramzan, security has been significantly tightened in multiple cities. This includes cities in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. Police forces have been conducting flag marches in sensitive areas. They are ensuring peace. They are also actively preparing to handle any potential disturbances caused by anti-social elements.

Concerns Over Security During Holi and Ramzan

Holi, a festival symbolizing joy and unity, is coinciding with a Friday during Ramzan after 64 years. However, recent hate speeches related to the festival have sparked fears among communities. Authorities are taking precautionary measures, with increased police presence and surveillance to maintain order.

Political and Security Implications

The overlap of Holi and Ramzan’s Friday prayers has become a subject of political debate. This has led to heightened security efforts across multiple regions. In Sambhal, UP, tensions have been particularly high due to past conflicts. A statement by CO Anuj Chaudhary emphasizing the rarity of Holi compared to weekly Friday prayers ignited political discussions nationwide. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also voiced support for this statement, further fueling the discourse.

Extensive Police Deployment Across Regions

Sambhal:

Security forces remain on high alert due to the region’s history of communal tensions. Authorities have reassured citizens that Holi celebrations and Friday prayers will proceed peacefully.

Gonda:

Under the supervision of senior officers, police are conducting riot control drills. They are training personnel in crowd management. The use of tear gas, revolvers, and rifles is included. Quick Response Teams (QRTs) have been deployed throughout the district. Peace committees and trade associations have pledged to uphold harmony. Social media is also being closely monitored.

Prayagraj:

Police have carried out flag marches in areas with mosques. Forces have been deployed in Holi-playing zones. Drones are being used for surveillance, and senior officials are personally overseeing security arrangements.

Delhi:

The Delhi Police has formulated “Plan-24,” identifying 24 sensitive locations where security has been significantly reinforced to prevent any disturbances.

Madhya Pradesh & Chhattisgarh:

  • In Mhow, Indore, the police have advised the Muslim community to cover mosques with plastic. This will prevent any inconvenience due to Holi colors.
  • In Chhattisgarh, the timing of Friday prayers has been adjusted. Prayers are now scheduled between 2 PM and 3 PM instead of the usual 1 PM. A circular has been issued to all mosque boards regarding this change. Additionally, police will remain on patrol for 48 hours to ensure law and order.

Technology-Assisted Security Measures

Authorities are leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) for enhanced security, monitoring social media for potential inflammatory content. In Lucknow, consultations with religious leaders have resulted in staggered timings for Holi processions and Friday prayers to prevent conflicts.

Law enforcement agencies have implemented extensive security measures. They are working to ensure that both Holi and Ramzan’s Friday prayers are observed peacefully across the country.
