India, China Hold High-Level Talks to Ease Border Tensions and Boost Cooperation
Meeting between Chinese Foreign Minister Mr. Wang Yi and S. Jaishankar is scheduled on August 18. It involved talks on easing border issues. The discussion included Indian National security advisor Ajit Doval and Wang Yi. This meeting is followed by previous meeting between Indian PM Modi and Chinese President Xi in Kazan.
China remarked their aim of building stable relations, manage differences and build political trust with India.

The meeting scheduled on Aug 18, where Indian MEA Dr. S Jaishankar met Chinese FM Wang Yi. Indian MEA expressed concerns that evolving relations between two Asian giants India and China should not turn into disputes.
“Having seen a difficult period in our relationship… our two nations now seek to move ahead,” Mr. Jaishankar said in his opening remarks as the two delegations met at the official venue, Hyderabad House.
Dr. Jaishankar remarked, “The fight against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations is another major priority. I look forward to our exchange of views. Overall, we expect our discussions to build a stable and cooperative relationship. This relationship should be forward-looking between India and China. It must serve both our interests and address our concerns.”
Emphasising India’s stance on fighting terrorism and its manifestations in all forms is important. It is equally crucial to maintain a stable and cooperative relationship between the two nations.
Jaishankar also highlighted that high level talks will be carried out on Aug 19. These talks will be between India’s Special Representative, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and Chinese FM Mr. Wang Yi on standing border issues between the two nations.
“This is very important. The foundation for any positive momentum in our ties is our shared ability to maintain peace. It involves jointly ensuring tranquillity in the border areas. It is also essential that the de-escalation process move forward,” Jaishankar said.
He further noted, amidst unstable world order it is required to maintain stable relations between two Asian giants. “We seek a fair, balanced, and multipolar world order, including a multipolar Asia. Reforming multilateralism is also the call of the day. In the current environment, it is clear we must maintain stability in the global economy. We must also enhance this stability,” Jaishankar added.
Wang Yi began a two-day visit to India on Monday. He will attend the 24th round of Special Representatives (SRs) talks on the border issue. The talks will be held with NSA Ajit Doval.
During the visit, Wang Yi highlighted that China has made efforts to ensure border peace. He emphasized the commitment to tranquillity between the two nations. He also mentioned the revival of Indian pilgrimage to Mount Gang Renpoche. Pilgrims are also returning to Lake Mapam Yun Tso in the Xijang autonomous region.
He expressed Beijing’s confidence in dispelling interference. He emphasized expanding cooperation. Beijing aims to consolidate the momentum of improving bilateral ties. This will contribute to each other’s development and provide certainty to Asia and the world.
The meeting follows Doval’s December trip to Beijing for the 23rd round of talks. This trip occurred weeks after Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Chinese President Xi Jinping. They agreed at the BRICS summit in Kazan. They decided to revive dialogue mechanisms.
Wang’s visit also comes ahead of PM Modi’s trip to China. He will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Tianjin from August 31 to September 1.
Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said Wang’s visit reflects Beijing’s intent to implement understandings reached between the two leaders. They aim to maintain high-level exchanges and deepen political trust. They also seek to expand cooperation and properly manage differences. This will ensure the stable development of bilateral ties.
