Khamenei Dismissed President Trump’s Action after Ceasefire

In his first address after the ceasefire between Israel and Iran, brokered by the US, Ayatollah Khamenei spoke confidently. He claimed victory over Israel. The supreme leader of Iran, on June 26, dismissed President Trump’s actions as mere showmanship.

Khamenei hasn’t been seen in public since taking shelter in a secret location. The war broke out on June 13. On that day, Israel attacked Iranian nuclear facilities and targeted top military commanders and scientists.

After a 12-day conflict, which included America’s direct involvement under Operation Midnight Hammer, a ceasefire was announced by Trump. Under Operation Midnight Hammer, the US targeted Iranian nuclear facilities through airstrikes. Iran retaliated by launching missiles at the US airbase in Qatar. However, Iran gave warnings for the same.

While he was not seen in public, Khamenei did release a video message on June 19 during the war. Iranian state television announced a new video message. The supreme leader’s social media pages also reported that he would speak to the Iranian people on Thursday.

Strict warning to US

On Thursday, he condemned the US involvement in the regional conflict. The U.S. did not achieve anything when it joined the war with Israel against Tehran, according to a post on X. He warned the US against attacking Iran again, or it “will pay a heavy price”. He also congratulated the nation on its victory.

Khamenei referenced Iran’s attack in Qatar. He said, “Such an action can be repeated in the future, too” and also stated that Iran has “access to key U.S. centers in the region and can take action whenever it deems necessary.” He added that, “The Islamic Republic was victorious and, in retaliation, delivered a heavy slap to America’s face.” Notably, Iran gave early warnings of the attack and caused no casualties. The attack is being interpreted as merely symbolic.

Iran maintained that the US’s political theatrics did limited damage to it, and they underestimated Iran’s resilience. Its retaliation showcased Iran’s strategic and military power.
