Massive Crackdown in Kashmir Following Pahalgam Terror Attack: Homes Demolished, Hundreds Detained

In the wake of the devastating Pahalgam terror attack, security forces across Jammu and Kashmir have intensified their efforts. They have launched an intense crackdown. This targets terrorist operatives and their local supporters. As part of the operation, authorities have demolished properties linked to militants. They have raided suspected hideouts. Hundreds of overground workers (OGWs) have been detained for interrogation. Officials confirmed this on Saturday, April 26, 2025.

The Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has issued a directive to media outlets. It urges them to avoid live broadcasting of military actions. This includes the movement of troops to ensure operational security.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that Islamabad was open to a “neutral and transparent” investigation into the Pahalgam tragedy. Meanwhile, India has accused Pakistan of fostering cross-border terrorism. Pakistan, however, has denied any involvement in the April 22 assault. Gunmen attacked tourists at Baisaran meadow. The attack left 26 dead.

Further controversy has arisen. It emerged during an all-party meeting that police approval had not been sought for opening the Baisaran meadow to tourists. A senior official from the Jammu and Kashmir government stated that police authorization is usually not needed. The popular destination is generally accessible without police approval. This place remains open throughout the year, except during heavy snowfall.

In Srinagar, police conducted sweeping searches at 63 different locations across the city. According to an official statement, these raids followed established legal procedures. Executive Magistrates oversaw the process, along with independent witnesses. Senior police officers supervised the entire operation.

On the political front, Jammu and Kashmir’s Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed skepticism. He doubted Pakistan’s offer to cooperate in a joint investigation. “Initially, they denied the attack happened. Then they accused India of orchestrating it. It’s hard to place any trust in such shifting narratives,” Abdullah remarked.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s willingness to be part of a credible inquiry. He called for an end to the “blame game” between the two nations.
