State-level Tennis Player Radhika Yadav Shot Dead by Father in Gurugram
In a tragic turn of events, Radhika Yadav, a promising 25 year old who was a state level tennis player, was allegedly murdered by her father. The incident took place at 10:30 a.m. at their home in Block-G, Sector 57, Sushant Lok, on Thursday. The victim was shot three times in the back by 51 year old Deepak Yadav, her father. She died instantly from injuries to her vital organs.
Radhika was only 25 and had a bright future ahead of her. She was not just a state level tennis player, but was also running her own tennis academy. She was born on March 23, 2000. Radhika had climbed the International Tennis Federation (ITF) women’s doubles rankings. She reached a career-best of 113 as of November 4, 2024. She also held the fifth position in the Haryana women’s doubles rankings. Police officials said she was known for her cheerful personality. She shared social media reels of herself celebrating victories with her father.
Radhika was a graduate from Scottish High International School. She cleared her Class 12 exams in commerce in 2018. She started playing tennis early in her school years and had recently sustained a shoulder injury. As a result, she paused her professional career. She started running the tennis academy.
Radhika was cooking in the kitchen of their house when her father shot her. He fired five bullets from his licensed .32 bore revolver. Radhika was hit by three, which damaged her vital organs. Radhika’s mother, Manju Yadav, did not give her statement to the police. As per the FIR, she told officers she had a fever and was not present at the time of the incident.
Initially, some reports suggested that Radhika was killed over her Instagram reels and social media activity. But this turned out to be false. Further investigation revealed that Radhika’s academy was what triggered her demise. Police officials said the killing followed a heated argument over her continuing to run the academy, which the father opposed. Deepak Yadav has confessed to the crime and remains in custody. Gurugram Police PRO Sandeep Kumar said,“Radhika used to run a tennis academy, and her father was not happy with it.”
After Radhika’s father confessed to the crime, questions are being raised about the prevalent patriarchy in the nation. Deepak Yadav confessed that he was frustrated by taunts from the society for living off of his daughter’s earnings. The father claimed he had been battling depression for the past 15 days. He was affected by social criticism about his daughter’s career and earnings. Villagers used to say I live off my daughter’s money. They said she runs a tennis academy and earns while I do nothing.
He further mentioned that he used to go to Waziabad to get milk. People would taunt him for eating on his daughter’s money. This made him upset. Deepak Yadav shared that people would point fingers at his daughter’s character. He asked her to close the academy, but she refused to do so. This only fueled his frustration and anger, which ultimately left his daughter’s blood on his hands.
