Dream11 Withdraws as Team India’s Jersey Sponsor; BCCI Seeks New Bids Ahead of Asia Cup
Recent reports indicate that Dream11 does not want to continue its deal with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The disagreement is over Jersey Sponsorship rights. However, an official statement has not been released by both parties.
Recently Indian parliament passed ‘The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill’. The bill has been cleared by both houses of parliament on Thursday.
The secretary of the national governing body, Devajit Saiki, said the BCCI will adhere to the country’s laws. “If it’s not permissible, we’ll not do anything. The BCCI will follow every policy of the country that is framed by the central government,” he said.
Dream11 will lose sponsorship rights of Jersey for Indian cricket team. Reports claimed BCCI will invite new bids for Jersey sponsorship rights ahead of Asia Cup. The Board must secure a deal before the tournament, scheduled for September 9. Otherwise, the Indian cricket team might play without a lead Jersey Sponsor in the upcoming Asia Cup.
Some reports indicate that the new jersey for the Indian cricket team for the Asia Cup had already been published. However, this time, they are less likely to be used.

Dream11 was announced as India’s lead jersey sponsor in July 2023 for a three-year contract. The deal was worth ₹358 crore. Dream11 has now joined an unenviable list of the team’s past sponsors. These sponsors have been hit by financial or legal trouble.
Sahara, the sponsor between 2001 and 2013, ran into SEBI trouble over regulatory violations. Star India replaced them as the lead sponsor between 2014 and 2017, but they faced a Competition Commission probe.
Oppo, which entered the scene in 2017, pulled out in 2020, citing financial strain. Byju’s stepped in the same year. However, its stint ended acrimoniously. The BCCI dragged the edtech major to court over unpaid dues.
India is expected to start face off at Asia Cup on September 10 against the UAE. They will continue with Pakistan for the second match on September 14. The match is scheduled at Dubai International stadium. Oman is the other team in Group A, whom the Suryakumar Yadav-led side will face on September 19.
