Indian Flag Missing from Gaddafi Stadium

A fresh controversy has emerged ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

The Champions Trophy 2025 is set to be hosted in Pakistan. Reports surfaced about the Indian flag being absent from Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium. The issue gained traction on social media and news platforms. It raised concerns about whether this was an oversight. There is also worry it is a deliberate move.

News agencies reached out to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for clarification. Officials cited guidelines from the International Cricket Council (ICC). A PCB spokesperson stated, “The ICC has advised that only four flags will be hoisted on CT25 match days. These include those of the ICC (Event Authority), PCB (Event Host), and the two competing teams.”

This explanation, though, has not put an end to the debate. Many are questioning why all participating nations’ flags are not displayed at the Gaddafi Stadium. This is common practice for global tournaments. Some reports suggest that while other nations’ flags are present at the venue, India’s absence has fueled speculation.

Tensions are already high between India and Pakistan, especially in cricketing affairs. This incident is to add to the ongoing discussions about India’s participation in the tournament. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has yet to comment on the matter. Given the history of diplomatic sensitivities between the two nations, further reactions are expected in the coming days.

As the Champions Trophy approaches, the focus will be on the ICC and PCB. Will they reconsider their stance? Will they guarantee equal representation of all competing teams?
