Israel Vs Iran: Nations choose sides while few urge for de-escalation

Israel has described the operation against Iran as a success. Israel attacked Iran’s nuclear installations. They killed the senior commanders of Iran’s Army and nuclear force. The Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, described this as a very successful initial attack. The operation has been named Operation Rising Lion by Israel. Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Friday (June 13, 2025) described the Israeli attack targeting. Netanyahu said, “We have carried out a very successful initial attack. With God’s help, we are going to achieve many more achievements.” After Israel’s attack, Iran has also retaliated targeting multiple civil areas across Israel, including Tel Aviv.

Nations take sides

The rising tensions in the middle east have stirred the nations across the glow with nations reacting to the situation. There are multiple countries who have taken sides while the others remain neutral. The nations supporting Iran against Israel are numerous. They include Russia, China, Egypt, and Turkey. Others are Pakistan, Indonesia, and Iraq. Oman, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar have also supported Iran. Additionally, the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, Jordan, Houthi, Hamas, and Afghanistan have shown their support.

Organizations and Nations Appeal to Deescalate

Organizations and nations have appealed to both countries to deescalate. This includes the United Nations, India, Japan, Ireland, the African Union, the European Union, and Italy.

United Nations has also reacted on the situation, calling for restraint to avoid for the conflict. UN secretary general Antonio Guterres has called for peace. Guterres’ spokesman Farhan Haq said, “The Secretary-General condemns any military escalation in the Middle East.” He is particularly concerned about Israel’s attacks on nuclear installations in Iran. This concern arises during ongoing talks between Iran and the United States. They are discussing the status of Iran’s nuclear program.

IAEA, the International Atomic Energy Agency has called on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and de-escalate. The UN nuclear watchdog chief Rafael Grossi said nuclear facilities should never be attacked. He called on all parties to exercise maximum restraint to avoid further escalation following Israeli strikes on Iran. “This development is extremely worrying…” Grossi said. He reiterated that any military action that threatens the safety and security of nuclear facilities could lead to serious consequences. These consequences could affect the people of Iran, the region, and beyond.

NATO has also called for intervention by the allies including US to reduce the tensions between Iran and Israel. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said it is important for Israel’s allies to work to reduce tensions. “I think it is now important for many allies, including the United States, to work to reduce tensions. I know they are doing so,” Rutte told reporters at a news conference in Stockholm. “This was a unilateral action by Israel,” Rutte said.
