Mark Carney Slams Trump in Victory Speech: ‘He’s Trying to Break Us’

Canadian PM accuses U.S. of undermining sovereignty; calls for unity after election win

Election Win Amid Growing Tensions

Ottawa, April 29 — Prime Minister Mark Carney secured a narrow win in Canada’s snap general elections. During his victory speech, he delivered a stern message aimed at former U.S. President Donald Trump. Carney led the Liberal Party. He warned of intensifying pressure from the United States. He also accused Trump of actively working to destabilize Canada.

“We have moved past the initial shock of American betrayal,” Carney said. “But we must never forget the lessons it has taught us.”

“Trump Wants to Own Us,” Claims Carney

Carney’s speech directly addressed Trump’s repeated public statements suggesting a U.S. annexation of Canada. “President Trump is trying to break us—so America can own us. That will never, ever happen,” he declared. The comments drew loud applause from his supporters.

He stressed that Canada’s longstanding cooperative relationship with the U.S. had fundamentally shifted, saying, “Our world has changed, and we must adapt to protect what is ours.”

Election Outcome: A Tenuous Lead for Liberals

As of late Tuesday night, preliminary results showed the Liberals leading. They had 163 seats. This was just ahead of the Conservatives with 146. While a majority remains uncertain, Carney’s party is expected to form the government—though possibly in a minority setting.

Trump Rekindles Annexation Threat on Voting Day

Donald Trump sparked controversy. He posted on Truth Social earlier in the day. He revived his proposal for Canada to become the 51st state of the United States.

“Elect the man who can cut your taxes in half, grow your military for free, and boost your industries. This will happen if Canada becomes the cherished 51st state of America,” Trump wrote.

Carney Calls for National Unity

Carney urged Canadians to close ranks and remain vigilant in the face of what he called “economic and territorial aggression.” He emphasized unity as the foundation for defending Canadian values, independence, and prosperity.

“The days of complacency are over,” he said. “We must stand together—not just as citizens, but as guardians of this country’s future.”

A Redefined U.S.-Canada Relationship

Carney is at the helm for another term. Ottawa is likely to adopt a tougher stance toward Washington in the coming months. This is expected especially on matters of trade. It also involves defense and national policy.

The prime minister’s message was clear: Canada is no longer taking its relationship with the U.S. for granted—and it’s ready to fight for its place in a rapidly changing world.
