Operation Brahma: Indian Navy Dispatches Relief Ships to Myanmar

After the devastating earthquake hit Myanmar and Thailand on 28 March 2025, the Indian Navy took swift action. They mobilized relief efforts under the humanitarian mission Operation Brahma. This initiative is coordinated by the Ministry of External Affairs. They collaborate with the Integrated Defence Staff. They also work with the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). This effort reinforces India’s role as a first responder in regional crises.

Naval Deployment with Essential Supplies

On 29 March 2025, INS Satpura and INS Savitri set sail for Yangon, Myanmar. They were operating under the Eastern Naval Command. They carried approximately 52 tons of critical relief materials. The aid package included:

• Clothing and blankets for displaced families
• Clean drinking water and food supplies
• Medicines and medical equipment for the injured
• Emergency relief items to support rescue and rehabilitation efforts

All supplies were meticulously packed on Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) pallets. This ensures swift distribution upon reaching the affected regions. It also guarantees efficiency.

Additional Naval Reinforcements from Andaman & Nicobar Command

INS Karmuk and LCU 52 from the Andaman and Nicobar Command embarked on their relief mission on 30 March 2025. This action strengthened the mission further. Their deployment underscores a multi-command effort, showcasing India’s robust logistical capabilities and its commitment to delivering timely humanitarian assistance.
