Pakistan Denies Link with LeT after US Announces TRF as Foreign Terrorist Organisation

In a statement on Friday, July 18, Islamabad condemned “all forms and manifestations” of terrorism. It claimed it has dismantled terror groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba. It further said that there is no concrete proof of LeT being linked to Operation Sindoor. Decreasing the significance of terror outfits that work against India, it highlighted the Pakistan government’s issue. The statement called for action against separatist groups like the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA). These groups have been working against the Pakistan government for years. The statement comes a day after the US designated The Resistance Front (TRF). TRF is a proxy of the Pakistan-based terror outfit LeT. The US named TRF as a “foreign terrorist organisation” and a Specially Designated Global Terrorist. This is due to its involvement in the Pahalgam attack.

The statement read, “Pakistan condemns terrorism in all forms and manifestations. Zero tolerance is a cornerstone of our policy. International cooperation against terrorism is also central to our approach. Pakistan has been, and is a frontline state against terrorism, and has contributed tremendously towards achievement of global peace…”

Claims of Dismantling Terrorism

Pakistan highlighted its efforts of battling terrorism in its statement. It said that the state has taken strict actions. These actions include the apprehension of Terrorist Sharifullah. He is the mastermind of the Abbey Gate Bombing of 2021.

It also claimed that Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) is “defunct” and any groups associated with LeT have also been dismantled. “Pakistan has effectively and comprehensively dismantled concerned outfits, arrested and prosecuted the leadership, and deradicalized its cadres.”

Denies Links to Pahalgam Attack

Pakistan provided an update on the situation. They stated that there were no links of Pakistani terrorist organisations to the Pahalgam Attack of 22nd April, 2025. “Investigations into the Pahalgam incident, that happened in the internationally recognized disputed region of IIOJ&K, are still inconclusive. Any linkage with LeT, a defunct organization banned in Pakistan belies ground realities.”

The Pahalgam terror attack claimed 26 lives. People were killed in the name of religion in the meadows of Baisaran Valley, Pahalgam.

Call for Identifying Majeed Brigade as BLA Alias

Pakistan also called for global action against terror outfits. It urged the global community to recognise Majeed Brigade as an alias of BLA. The Balosh Liberation Army (BLA) is already recognised as a terrorist organisation. Majeed Brigade is a special forces unit of the Balochistan Liberation Army. It is tasked with carrying out high-stakes and unconventional operations against Pakistani security forces.

“Pakistan plays a key role in counter-terrorism through unparalleled sacrifices and efficacy. We urge the international community to adopt objective and discriminatory policies. These policies should address this global menace through collective efforts. This necessitates that terrorist organizations like Majeed Brigade must also be listed as an alias of BLA.”

Pakistan’s White Lies

Pakistan’s official statement goes against the factual information. It says the Pahalgam attack is not linked to Pakistan based terror groups. However, The Resistance Front, an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the attack.

The statement also says that Pakistan has dismantled terrorist groups like LeT. It says they are not operational. But India identified many active bases of such groups and targeted their terror infrastructure in retaliation to the Pahalgam attack. This led to Operation Sindoor being launched on May 7. Through airstrikes, India targeted 9 locations – all centres of Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba. Without crossing the Line of Control or international boundary, India claimed to have killed over 100 terrorists.

Further, sources in Indian security establishments have claimed that the Pahalgam terror attack was planned by Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI. The terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) carried out the plan. They acted on orders from Pakistan’s political and military top brass.
