For the First Time Since the Nadimarg Massacre, Kashmiri Pandits Gather at the Site to Pay Homage to the 24 Victims

In a poignant and emotional gathering, survivors and relatives of the Nadimarg massacre victims returned to the tragedy site. This was their first visit since the horrific incident. On 23rd March 2003, terrorists brutally murdered 24 Kashmiri Pandits. They lined them up and shot them in cold blood in Nadimarg village. This village is located in South Kashmir.

Today marks the 22nd anniversary of the massacre. Families and survivors gathered at the very spot where their loved ones were slain. It was the first time in over two decades that they came together to pay homage. They offered prayers and lit candles in memory of the innocent lives lost. The silence of the village was haunting. It stood as a stark reminder of the dark chapter. This chapter forced many Pandits to flee the valley in fear.

Among those who returned was Mohan Lal Bhat, the lone survivor of his family. Bhat lost his father, mother, sister, and uncle in the massacre. Overcome with emotion, he visited the site for the first time since 2003 to pay his respects. With tearful eyes, he recalled the horrifying night that left his family shattered forever.

The Nadimarg massacre was one of the most gruesome targeted killings of Kashmiri Pandits during the insurgency. The survivors’ return to the village after 22 years reflects both their enduring grief and their resilience. It also serves as a solemn reminder of the pain and suffering endured by the displaced Pandit community.

As they stood at the site of the massacre, the victims’ families renewed their call for justice. They hope that their loved ones’ sacrifice will never be forgotten.
