Ex CM Shibu Soren Dies at 81: President Murmu, PM Modi and Rahul Amongst Others Pay Homage
After the death of Former Jharkhand Chief Minister and founder of Mukti Morcha, Shibu Soren, President Draupadi Murmu visited. She went to Sir Ganga Ram hospital. PM Modi and opposition leader Rahul Gandhi also visited to pay homage to Late Shibu Soren. They offered condolences to his family.
Ex CM Shibu Soren, aged 81 was undergoing treatment for kidney related complications and recovering from a stroke. He passed away peacefully at 8:56 AM on August 4,2025.
Soren, widely revered as “Dishom Guru,” founded the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha. He played a pivotal role in the formation of Jharkhand and in advancing tribal rights.
President Murmu paid last respects at the hospital. Called Soren’s demise “a big loss in the space of social justice.” The president acknowledged his contribution in Jharkhand statehood and his efforts in championing tribal identity.
PM Modi posted on X “went to Sir Ganga Ram hospital to pay homage to Shri Shibu Soren Ji . Also met his family. My thoughts are with Hemant Ji, Kalpana Ji and the admirers of Shri Shibu Soren ji.” He shared pictures of him expressing condolences to his family.
In subsequent posts Mr. Modi mentioned “His entire life was dedicated to the welfare of the tribal community”.
Hemant Soren expressed his grief on X. He said, “Respected Guru Dishom has left us all.” He further added, “Today I have become zero,” expressing his deep grief.d.
Rahul Gandhi wrote on X “I am deeply saddened to hear this news. Jharkhand’s former Chief Minister has passed away. Shibu Soren Ji was a senior JMM leader. A strong voice for the tribal community, he fought tirelessly for their rights and entitlements. His role in the formation of Jharkhand will always be remembered. I express my deepest condolences to Hemant Soren Ji, the entire Soren family, and all of Guruji’s supporters.”
