At the time when this incident happened, there were more than 280 passengers on the ship. The fire spread so fast that the passengers had to jump into the sea to save their lives. The incident happened near North Sulawesi at around 1:30 pm.
A video of this accident has also surfaced. It can be seen in the video that people are terrified. There are some children and women as well, who are seen jumping into the sea wearing life jackets. Many passengers were seen screaming, while some staff members were helping people to wear life jackets.
Due to the fierce fire, this ferry that once looked blue and white turned into black ashes. The structure of the ship was completely scorched in the flames. According to reports, so far 18 people have been confirmed injured, although some people are still reported missing.
The rescue team is continuously engaged in rescue operations. Three large ships named KM Barcelona III, KM Venecian and KM Cantika Lestari 9F were immediately sent to the spot. Along with this, local fishermen and people also started rescue operations with their boats. The video of the incident is becoming increasingly viral on social media. It clearly shows how people are jumping into the sea one by one. A rescued passenger was also seen getting emotional while looking at the burning ferry. Even the metal rods of the ferry’s structure have come out. From this, the horror of the accident can be gauged.
