INDIA’S VIJAYA IN SKY – An overview of India’s indigenous Air defense system – AkashTeer
Developed collaboratively by DRDO, BDL, ISRO & BEL, Akashteer is a cutting-edge, real-time targeting and interception system for air defense. Over 100 units are already deployed in the Indian Army’s Corps of Army Air Defence. This deployment marks a big leap in achieving aatmanirbharta in the air defense sphere. Operating as a “system-of-systems,” it integrates satellites, drones, ground radars, and mobile war rooms. It also uses AI processors to form a self-updating, autonomous defensive network.
AkashTeer leverages India’s NAVIC satellite constellation effectively. It uses ISRO’s Cartosat and RISAT for real-time targeting and adaptable decision-making. This results in superior reliability and pinpoint accuracy in South Asia. It is particularly effective in challenging terrains like mountains and deserts. This system outperforms GPS-guided systems from other nations.
AkashTeer guarantees data sovereignty by avoiding foreign satellites. Its zero-human-delay loop provides lightning-fast mission adjustments. It allows quick target selection. The system enables instant drone reprogramming. This is a major improvement over systems relying on human commands.

Catching enemy in cross fire, it proved it’s mettle in Operation Sindoor. The in-house ground based defence system integrated with Akashteer followed the incoming drones and missiles. It precisely hunted each target with hawk-like precision. Pakistan’s Army radars and air command centers failed to detect AkashTeer drones near sensitive zones. The signature and frequency of the drones were unknown. This undermined confidence in their US-supplied AWACS and anti-drone radars.
AkashTeer’s AI-satellite fusion has surprised China, prompting recalibration of their systems. Turkey now sees AkashTeer’s stealthier drones as a new benchmark, spurring their own AI upgrades. AkashTeer’s “Plug-and-Strike” deployment allows operation from a laptop-sized mobile command center. It can operate even in a moving vehicle, making it highly adaptable. It is potentially the most versatile system globally.
