Second IAF Aircraft Crash in a day: Know when and where

After Jaguar, IAF’s AN32 Transport Aircraft Crash Lands In Bagdogra, Crew Safe

In a concerning day for the Indian Air Force, a second air accident was confirmed. The AN32 Transport Aircraft of the IAF crash landed near Bagdogra while the crew is safe. The two separate air accidents reported on Friday raise serious concerns about the safety situation of the IAF fleet. Earlier an IAF Jaguar fighter jet crashed near Haryana’s Panchkula following a system malfunction. Fortunately, in both incidents, the crew members were unharmed.

The Jaguar, which had taken off from Ambala for a routine training sortie, developed a technical snag mid-flight. The pilot skillfully maneuvered the aircraft away from populated areas before ejecting safely. The jet went down in hilly terrain near Panchkula. Visuals from the site showed the wreckage scattered. Some parts of the aircraft were still on fire. Emergency teams were quickly deployed to secure the area.

Later in the day, an AN-32 transport aircraft made a crash landing at Bagdogra airbase in West Bengal. The aircraft, used for military transport operations, suffered an unknown technical issue, prompting the emergency landing. The IAF confirmed that the crew was safe and that efforts were underway to recover the aircraft from the site.

The back-to-back incidents have raised concerns about aircraft safety and maintenance. The IAF has launched separate investigations to determine the causes of both accidents.

The Jaguar fleet has been in service for decades. However, the AN-32 is still a crucial part of the Air Force’s transport capabilities. These incidents highlight the operational risks faced by military aviators. They also emphasize the need for continued modernization and maintenance of aging aircraft.
