Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par Secures CBFC Clearance

With the clearance secured, ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ now looks set to hit screens without further hurdles, marking Khan’s much-anticipated return after ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’

After weeks of uncertainty, Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par has secured clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). This clearance paves the way for its theatrical release on June 20, 2025. The approval follows reports of a behind-the-scenes tussle over proposed cuts, which had sparked speculation about a potential delay.

The film is described as a spiritual successor to Khan’s 2007 hit Taare Zameen Par. It ran into a roadblock when the CBFC reportedly requested two edits. The actor-producer was reluctant to implement these changes. A source familiar with the matter had previously told, “Aamir Khan feels the film should be passed without these cuts. He and director R.S. Prasanna have made the film with a lot of thought. Certain scenes and dialogues, when seen in context, seem completely appropriate.”

The CBFC and Khan did not officially disclose details of the requested cuts. Insiders confirm that the matter was resolved after further discussions between Khan, Prasanna, and the CBFC Examining Committee. With certification in hand, advance bookings for Sitaare Zameen Par are expected to open soon.

Directed by R.S. Prasanna, the drama follows a determined coach played by Khan. He mentors ten people on the spectrum to form a basketball team. The film also stars Genelia Deshmukh and introduces several young talents, including Aroush Datta and Simran Mangeshkar.

The British Censor Board had already cleared Sitaare Zameen Par with a 12A certificate. They mentioned that the film contains ‘discrimination and moderate references to sex.’ The film runs for 2 hours and 35 minutes and is an official remake of the Spanish hit Champions.
