Netflix has released the trailer for The Ba**ds of Bollywood, the directorial debut of Aryan Khan, set to premiere this month. The seven-episode series is produced by Gauri Khan under Red Chillies Entertainment.

The show follows Aasman Singh (Lakshya), an aspiring outsider navigating the complexities of the film industry. His path is shaped by support from his best friend Parvaiz (Raghav Juyal) and his mother Neeta (Mona Singh). However, it soon collides with the influence of established star Ajay Talvar (Bobby Deol) and his daughter Karishma (Sahher Bambba).

The trailer highlight’s themes of ambition, nepotism, and the pressures of legacy. It also introduces moments of satire. Karan Johar appears as himself. There are cameos from Rajkummar Rao, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Aamir Khan, Disha Patani, and filmmaker SS Rajamouli. Shah Rukh Khan also makes a brief appearance.

In the trailer, Sahher’s character is heard saying, ‘Living in someone’s shadow is a struggle in itself.’ Lakshya’s character replies, ‘Main sirf itna keh raha hoon ki papa ki parchai se niklo. Tumhe maalum padega kitni dhoop hai bahaar.’ In the next scene both are seen shooting for a film together.

Real-life moments recreated

This scene playfully recreates Ananya and Siddhant’s famous conversation about nepotism. In the original discussion, Ananya explained her idea of struggle. She mentioned that her father is an actor. Despite this, she has always wanted to pursue acting and wouldn’t turn down opportunities to do so.

Ananya and Siddhant’s perspective

Ananya added that her father never appeared in big Dharma films. He also never appeared on shows like Koffee with Karan. Therefore, her journey hasn’t been as easy as people assume. Siddhant’s viral reply was, “Where our dreams are fulfilled, their struggle begins.” The duo later starred in Kho Gaye Hum Kahaan, considered one of Ananya’s best performances.

The music of The Ba***ds of Bollywood, is in collaboration with T-Series. The album is composed by Shashwat Sachdev, with guest composers Anirudh Ravichander and Ujwal Gupta.

Netflix describes the series as “a mix of sharp one-liners and larger-than-life moments,” presenting a self-aware take on the industry. The script is by Bilal Siddiqi and Manav Chauhan, with Bonnie Jain and Akshat Verma as executive producers.

The Ba**ds of Bollywood will be available to stream globally from September 18.
