The woman was identified as Sanju Devi. Her son, Akhilesh Prajapati, allegedly locked her inside. He did this before leaving with his wife and children on Monday. With no proper food, she survived on rice and water. By Wednesday, she was so weak from hunger that she began attempting to eat plastic. Her desperate cries for help finally alerted neighbors, who broke open the door and found her in a frail state. They promptly provided her with food and informed her daughter, Chandni Devi.

Chandni, along with her maternal uncle, Mansa Mahato, rushed to the scene and contacted the police. Authorities quickly intervened and took Sanju Devi to a hospital for medical treatment.

Akhilesh defended his actions when confronted. He claimed that he had left food for his mother before leaving. She had encouraged them to attend the religious gathering. He also stated that she was unwell, which is why the family had not taken her along.

Ramgarh police confirmed the incident, with Superintendent of Police Ajay Kumar condemning the act as “completely inhumane.” He assured that appropriate legal action would be taken if a formal complaint was filed.
