Since the AI 171 crashed in Ahmedabad killing 241 passengers onboard, several air travel ordeals have been reported by passengers. Another plane that travelled from London to Delhi had a rough journey with unexpected hault, redirections and delays. The passengers on board the flight from London to Delhi reported a scary sequence of events during their flight.
Landing Disrupted
The virgin Atlantic flight number VS3O2 took off from Heathrow AirPort London on July 8. It was supposed to land at IGI Airport Delhi at 10.30 pm on the same date. One of the passengers on board narrated the ordeal to The Viral Mail. The passenger said that the flight was about to land at Delhi at 11.30 pm. It seemed that it would hit the runway in just a few minutes, but it took off again. The airline crew told the passengers that the ATC denied permission to land. They cited bad weather. As a result, the craft took off once again. The aircraft kept hovering around the skies for over an hour sans the permission to land by the IGI authorities.
Running out of Fuel
The passengers received an announcement. The virgin Atlantic flight that took off from London is now running out of fuel. It cannot keep waiting for permission from ATC Delhi. The experience was puzzling and scary for the passengers. This was especially true after the recent Ahmedabad crash. They were also concerned due to multiple other flight flaws reported. The aircraft was immediately rushed to Lucknow for refuelling purposes.
The aircraft was not allowed to land in Delhi despite being close to the runway. It faced rough thunderstorms and turbulence throughout its route to Lucknow. It was around 1.30 am when the Virgin Atlantic aircraft landed at Lucknow for fuel replenishment. Since the flight was international, the passengers could not deplane at Lucknow. This was despite the discomfort caused by unexpected long flying hours.
According to the passengers on board the aircraft was stationed at Lucknow for over three hours. It took off around 4:30 am on July 9th from Lucknow to finally reach Delhi almost seven hours behind schedule. The passengers count this as a nightmare. The international flight’s safety was compromised. Its schedule was completely affected due to Delhi ATCs directives.
The passengers included infants, young children and elders who experienced extremely challenging situation through the journey. The passenger spoke to the TVM. They call it a miracle. All passengers landed safely despite the hiccups during their flight. The issue has yet again highlighted the risks of air travel in India. This is especially due to lack of coordination and arrangements.
