Army Officer Allegedly Assaulted Four Spicejet Staffers

One of the SpiceJet staffer Mudasir Ahmed Khan broke his silence over the incident explaining how the Army officer hit him ruthlessly,

Mudasir explained “I was there at the boarding gate. So, I was helping with the boarding, and we have a 7 Kg limit to hand baggage. One passenger had 16 KG of baggage. He was carrying two bags. When I told him that, he started shouting at me. I explained him the baggage rules, however he continued shouting. I called my senior and started helping other passengers…finally, he started getting aggravated and started taking out his belongings from his bag at the boarding gate. He threw his belongings at another staff and then threw his trolley bag at me.  Then he slapped and punched me multiple times. I was bleeding.”

The incident was reported on July 26, when lieutenant colonel R K Singh, posted at the Army’s High Altitude Warfare School (HAWS) in Gulmarg, allegedly launched a violent assault on four SpiceJet staff members after reported clashes on excess cabin baggage charges.

The officer was to Board flight SG-386 from Srinagar to Delhi.

As SpiceJet explained, a senior army officer was carrying cabin baggage more than the permissible limit. When he was stopped by the staffer and asked to pay extra charges for the extra weight, the officer refused. He then barged directly into the aerobridge. He did this without completing the boarding process. This action is a clear breach of aviation security protocols.

A CISF officer escorted him back to the gate.

After returning back to the gate, the officer became ferocious, “Not just once, he beat up four Staffers. One of my colleagues fainted, while another bent down to help, he was kicked in the Jaw, causing bleeding from nose and mouth”, the injured staffer recounted.

An FIR has been filed against the officer following the incident. The process to place the officer in the ‘no fly list’ has begun. The airlines has condemned such horrific act against its staffer.

Officer files counter-complaint

Officer in return have filed counter- complain allegedly stating that he himself has been assaulted by airlines staff.

The Indian Army has acknowledged the incident. They stated, “Army is committed to upholding the highest standards of discipline and conduct. It takes all allegations seriously. Full cooperation is being extended to authorities in investigating the case.”
