Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder Case Takes New Turn as Sonam Resurfaces

The investigation into the mysterious death of Raja Raghuvanshi during his honeymoon in Meghalaya saw a dramatic shift. This happened after his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, unexpectedly appeared in Uttar Pradesh. Her sudden emergence followed the arrest of several suspects in the case.

Police Point to Suspicious Timing of Sonam’s Surrender

East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem revealed the timing of Sonam’s name being mentioned. It happened only after they arrested Raj Kushwaha and others. “She remained missing for days. But just hours after key suspects were caught, she suddenly showed up. That in itself is telling,” he stated. He also indicated that Sonam may have had a romantic relationship outside her marriage, though investigations are ongoing.

Sonam Voluntarily Surrenders to UP Police

Contrary to earlier speculation about an arrest, Meghalaya Police clarified that Sonam had surrendered voluntarily. She approached Nandganj Police Station in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, where she was taken into protective custody. Legal procedures for her transit and interrogation are currently underway. Both the state police and Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong confirmed this.

Multiple Arrests Across States

Three suspects have so far been apprehended in connection with the case. Two were apprehended in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. One was apprehended in Lalitpur, Uttar Pradesh. Meghalaya Police stated that these arrests are crucial. They help understand the sequence of events that led to Raja’s murder and Sonam’s subsequent disappearance.

Ghazipur Police Provide Further Details

Ghazipur SP Neeraj Raja shared that Sonam was located near a highway eatery on the Varanasi-Ghazipur route. This followed a tip-off from Madhya Pradesh Police. “They took her to the district hospital for a check-up. She is now safe at a One Stop Centre,” he said. Coordination with Meghalaya and Madhya Pradesh police is ongoing to facilitate the continuation of the investigation.

Background: The Disappearance and Discovery

Raja and Sonam Raghuvanshi, a couple from Indore, had travelled to Meghalaya for their honeymoon. Both went missing during the trip, and days later, Raja’s body was found. Sonam’s unexpected reappearance and the arrest of multiple suspects have turned the case into a multi-state criminal investigation.
