Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder: Sonam’s Brother Cuts Ties, Says “100% Sure She Did It”
There has been a stunning development in the Meghalaya honeymoon murder case. Govind Raghuvanshi is the brother of accused Sonam Raghuvanshi. He has publicly apologized to the victim Raja Raghuvanshi’s family. He has also disowned his sister. Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Govind stated, “I am 100% sure she committed this murder.” This conclusion is based on the evidence revealed so far.
He further confirmed that the entire family has severed ties with Sonam. She is accused of orchestrating the brutal killing of her husband during their honeymoon trip. “I apologise to Raja’s family on behalf of ours. We are devastated,” he said, adding that Sonam kept her alleged connections with key suspects hidden from their mother.
The chilling case involves Sonam allegedly conspiring with Raj Kushwaha. She hired contract killers to eliminate her husband, just days after their wedding. According to police, Sonam paid ₹20 lakh following the murder.
Indore and Meghalaya police officers are jointly probing the case. They revealed that some accomplices initially backed out. Sonam, however, remained firm in her intent. A senior officer said, “Even when the others refused to carry out the murder, she insisted and promised ₹15 lakh. This determination significantly contributed to the crime being carried out.”

Govind, brother of Sonam clarified that the marriage date—May 11—was chosen based on a priest’s suggestion. He denied any prior knowledge of Sonam’s association with the suspects, especially Raj Kushwaha. “Had we known, we would have stopped it,” he emphasized.
He further added, “Though she hasn’t admitted to it, the existing evidence leaves no room for doubt. We want the harshest punishment for all involved — even the death penalty if proven guilty.”
After marrying on May 11 in Indore, Sonam and Raja travelled to Meghalaya for their honeymoon. The couple checked out of a homestay in Nongriat village on May 23. Raja’s body was discovered ten days later in a 200-foot-deep gorge, roughly 20 km from the homestay.
Postmortem reports confirmed fatal injuries inflicted by a sharp weapon—both from the front and back.
The police have arrested four individuals so far. They are Vishal Singh Chauhan, Akash Rajput, Anand Kurmi, and Raj Kushwaha. All of them are allegedly involved in the murder conspiracy. Sonam, who went missing after the incident, surrendered at a police station in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, on June 8.
As investigations continue, the case has sparked nationwide attention. Its brutality and betrayal have shocked many. People are now questioning how such a crime could unfold within days of a seemingly happy marriage.
