NCERT Partition Module Sparks Political Row: Jinnah, Congress and Mountbatten Blamed

A major political storm has erupted over a new NCERT module. This module attributes the partition of India to three key figures. They are Mohammad Ali Jinnah, the Congress leadership, and Lord Mountbatten.

According to the revised content, Jinnah dreamt of partition. The Congress accepted it to avoid civil war. Mountbatten executed it in haste. This interpretation has triggered sharp reactions across the political spectrum.

National Parties Reacted to the Textbook Changes

Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera denounced the changes, saying, “Burn this book. The truth is that partition happened due to collusion between the Hindu Mahasabha and the Muslim League. The RSS played the most dangerous role in this tragedy, and history will never forgive them.”

BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia countered strongly, remarking, “NCERT has finally revealed the truth of partition. Rahul Gandhi and Jinnah share the same mindset of dividing the country on religious lines. The Congress is upset because history is exposing them.”

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi demanded inclusion of the book “Muslims Against Partition” in NCERT modules. This inclusion would present the real historical perspective. He argued that Muslims were economically and socially weak during the 1940s and should not be unfairly blamed.

SP leader Akhilesh Yadav criticized the BJP, claiming, “The BJP has no ideology except to cling to power. Instead of addressing issues of the poor, backward classes, Dalits, and tribals, they are using distorted history for politics.”

Details of NCERT’s New Module

NCERT’s new module includes the role played by three important components of that era to bring Partition with India’s independence.

1.Jinaah demanded the separation of country or partition into two states.

2. Under Nehru and Patel, congress accepted the proposal for India’s division into two states to avoid civil war.

3.Mountbatten’s hasty execution, including advancing the partition date to August 1947, which worsened the tragedy of displacement and violence.

While the Congress and Opposition parties insist on distortion of history by NCERT’s newly introduced modules. BJP lays emphasis that students must be taught the right historical facts about what happened in the past.
