NDRF continues rescue operations as Pune bridge collapse: 2 dead, over 20 swept away in Indrayani river

NEW DELHI: An iron bridge collapsed over Indrayani river near Kundamala village in Maharashtra’s Pune on Sunday. A few people are feared trapped, according to the Pimpri-Chinchwad police. Two people died, 32 were injured, and six were rescued, while some swept away, said CM Devendra Fadnavis.

He confirmed the incident and said an NDRF team has joined the efforts to rescue people.

125 tourists were at the spot on bridge

Former vice president of Cantonment Board Dehu Road, Raghuvir Shelar, said that the incident occurred at around 4 pm in Pune. He added that around 125 tourists were standing on the same spot on the bridge, and it suddenly collapsed.

“Nearly 20-25 people were drifted away by the river. Some of them were taken out by local workers, while 4-5 are still stuck under the bridge,” he said.

Talking about the incident, CM Fadnavis said that he has spoken to the divisional commissioner, tehsildar and police commissioner.

“According to preliminary information, two people have died in this incident. As some people have been swept away, a search is being carried out on a war footing. NDRF has been deployed at the spot. 6 people have been rescued so far. All the agencies have been ordered to be put on alert mode. 32 people were injured, 6 of them are critical. They have been admitted to the hospital for treatment,” he said in a post on X.
