Noida Woman Alleges She Was Served Non-Veg Biryani During Navratri; Restaurant Owner Arrested Amid Online Debate

A restaurant owner in Greater Noida has been arrested. A woman named Chhaya Sharma claimed she received non-vegetarian biryani instead of vegetarian. This occurred during the sacred Hindu festival of Navratri.

The controversy erupted when Sharma posted a tearful video on social media. She stated that she had ordered veg biryani via Swiggy from Lucknowi Kabab Paratha. After a few bites, she discovered that it contained meat. “I am a pure vegetarian. This happened during Navratri. It feels like it was done on purpose,” she alleged in the video.

Her post quickly went viral, prompting widespread outrage, with many expressing sympathy and calling for accountability. In response, police from Bisrakh Police Station arrested the restaurant owner, Rahul Rajvanshi, on April 7. An official update by the Gautam Buddh Nagar Police confirmed the arrest, noting:

@noidapolice: “Bisrakh Police Station (Central Noida): Restaurant operator arrested for delivering non-veg biryani after an online order for veg biryani. Further action will follow post-investigation.”

Online Debate: Was It Really Veg Biryani?

The incident has now sparked a polarizing debate online, especially after a post by user @ThisAndThatDude who raised questions about Sharma’s claim:

Post from The Dude!
@ThisAndThatDude
“This is the menu of the ‘Lucknowi Kabab Paratha’ restaurant in Greater Noida.
They don’t even have a Veg Biryani on the menu. The ‘Biryani rice only’ would be just non-veg biryani without meat pieces.
Was the pious shuddh vegetarian Chhaya Sharma ordering this during her Navratri??
Stupid drama queen ruining someone’s life?!”

The post added fuel to the controversy. Many social media users argued whether the restaurant even offered a proper vegetarian option in the first place. Others highlighted the need for food delivery platforms and restaurants to be more transparent. They need to be careful during religious observances like Navratri.

Swiggy is yet to give any official statement on the incidence.

What Happens Next?

Police say that a proper investigation is ongoing to determine whether the mistake was intentional or a technical/ordering error. Meanwhile, the restaurant remains closed temporarily, and the owner’s arrest has sparked calls for balanced action and due process.

This incident raises larger questions about food labeling, religious sensitivities, and the impact of viral outrage on livelihoods.
