Pahalgam Terror Attack Aftermath: India Blocks Pakistan’s Official X Account in Digital Retaliation

Digital Strike Amidst Rising Tensions

The Indian government has intensified its countermeasures in response to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. This time, they are focusing on the digital domain. On Thursday, India blocked access to the official X (formerly Twitter) account of the Government of Pakistan within Indian territory. This action marks a new form of response. It is a “digital strike” aimed at countering online propaganda from across the border.

Move Follows Stringent Decisions by CCS

This digital action comes after a series of high-level security decisions. The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) took these decisions. The committee is chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They met on Wednesday evening. The five crucial measures included suspending the Indus Waters Treaty. They also involved closing the Attari border crossing. Another measure was reducing diplomatic staff at both Indian and Pakistani High Commissions. Now, the digital crackdown adds another layer to India’s multi-pronged response.

Social Media Ban Sends Strong Message

The government has restricted access to Pakistan’s official X handle in India. This action sends a strong message that it will not tolerate online platforms being used to spread misinformation. The government also aims to prevent incitement of unrest following terror activities. The ban aims to curb potential influence campaigns that may originate from state-backed entities across the border.

NIA Joins J&K Police in Terror Investigation

Meanwhile, investigations into the Pahalgam terror attack — which claimed 26 lives — are progressing. A team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrived in Srinagar. They also traveled to Pahalgam to collaborate with the Jammu and Kashmir Police. Sources confirm that investigators are working to decrypt critical chat messages. These messages are believed to be linked to the attackers’ planning and execution.

Fresh Terror Incidents in Jammu and Kashmir

In parallel developments, Indian security forces remain on high alert. On Wednesday, two terrorists were neutralized in Uri as they attempted to infiltrate. On Thursday, a fresh encounter broke out in Udhampur district, where militants are reportedly hiding in the Duddu Basantgarh hills. A search operation is underway in the mountainous terrain to flush out remaining threats.

Pakistani Denial Amid Mounting Pressure

A video surfaced of Saifullah Kasuri. He is the alleged mastermind of the Pahalgam attack. In the video, he denies involvement. However, Indian agencies remain skeptical, pointing to a history of such denials despite mounting evidence.

India’s message is clear. This applies whether on the ground, in diplomatic corridors, or across digital spaces. There will be zero tolerance for terrorism.
