Investigators uncover chilling details of premeditated attack that left 26 dead in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baisaran Valley

The perpetrators had surveyed the Baisaran Valley area in early April. According to officials from the National Investigation Agency (NIA), they had been lying in wait. They were armed and prepared to strike. Intelligence sources confirm that the attack was initially slated for two days before April 22. Adverse weather conditions forced the assailants to postpone their plans.
On the day of the attack, witnesses reported seeing two individuals loitering behind a food kiosk around 2:30 PM. Moments later, they approached tourists dining nearby and began questioning them about their religion. What followed was a horrifying execution-style assault—gunfire erupted, targeting people based on their religious identity.
Initial reports speculated that the attackers had emerged from nearby hills. However, new findings suggest they were already embedded within the area. They used the food stall to blend in before launching their attack. The assault lasted approximately 30 minutes. It saw indiscriminate shooting. Allegedly, there were demands for the victims to recite religious verses.
The tragic outcome left 26 individuals dead. The victims were predominantly Hindu men. A local horse handler from Kashmir and a tourist from Nepal were also among the deceased. This is the deadliest terrorist attack in the region since the 2008 Mumbai carnage.
