PM Modi celebrates 11th International Yoga Day from Visakhapatnam
21st June 2025 marks the 11th International Yoga Day. The theme for this year is “Yoga for One Earth, One Health”. This theme reflects India’s sentiment of global wellness or “Sarve Santu Niramaya”. International Yoga Day has been celebrated worldwide since 2015. This began after India’s proposal was accepted through resolution 69/131.
The Indian Prime Minister led the celebrations in the country. The event was held along a 26-kilometre stretch from Ramakrishna Beach in Visakhapatnam to Bhogapuram. He had arrived in Visakhapatnam on Friday evening and was received by Andhra Pradesh CM N. Chandrababu Naidu. He remarked that Yoga is for everyone, regardless of their age, background, or abilities.
Yoga is a Sanskrit word, meaning to join or to unite. It is often called the art and science of healthy living. The PM highlighted that Yoga has now become part of crores of lives across the globe. “Let this Yoga Day mark the beginning of Yoga for humanity 2.0, where inner peace becomes global policy,” he said. He added that “Yoga is the pause button humanity needs… to breathe, to balance, to become whole again.”

Thousands of Yoga-related activities were conducted to build momentum for this event and celebrate the discipline. In Gujarat, 2,121 people set a new Guinness World Record. They held Yoga’s Cobra pose (Bhujangasana) for two minutes and nine seconds in Vadnagar. The minimum requirement was just 250 people holding the pose for one minute.
All around the nation, everyone from Army personnel to political leaders celebrated the day with zeal. Yoga sessions were organised, following the Common Yoga Protocol, from Lal Chowk in Srinagar to the French Embassy in India.
Yoga continues to connect people globally, remaining one of India’s greatest soft powers.
