PM Modi launches projects worth Rs 5,700 crore in Bihar
PM Narendra Modi held a roadshow and a public meeting in Bihar’s Siwan today. Greeting CM Nitish Kumar before taking the stage, the Prime Minister announced multiple infrastructure and socio-economic development projects. He said that Bihar was set to play a major role in the development of India.
Among the 28 projects, the PM flagged off Patliputra-Gorakhpur Vande Bharat Express train via Muzaffarpur and Bettiah. This enhances connectivity across Bihar. The Prime Minister inaugurated the new Vaishali–Deoria railway line. It was built at a cost of ₹400 crore. He also flagged off a new train service on this route. These are expected to provide speedy travel options and increase ease of commuting.
Modi also flagged off a state-of-the-art locomotive built at the Marhowra Plant for export to the Republic of Guinea. This is the first export locomotive built here. It boasts high-horsepower engines, advanced AC propulsion systems, ergonomic cabs, and microprocessor-based control, all integrated with regenerative braking technology. This signifies a new chapter for “Make in India – Make for the World.” It also represents growth for Bihar’s manufacturing and technology sector.
Under the Namami Gange Programme, the Prime Minister inaugurated six new Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs). These are worth over ₹1,800 crore. This highlights his commitment to rejuvenating the river Ganga.
Modi laid the foundation stone for water supply projects. These include sanitation and STPs worth over Rs 3000 crore. These projects are situated in various towns across Bihar. This effort is to ensure safe drinking water. This will help improve public health and urban infrastructure.

The PM will provide a significant boost to urban infrastructure. He will release the first instalment of PMAY-U (Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban) for over 53,600 beneficiaries in Bihar. He will hand over keys to a selected group of homeowners. This will happen in a symbolic ‘Grih Pravesh’ ceremony. The ceremony marks the completion of 6,600 new homes.
PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for a 500 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). This will be across 15 substations in Bihar, including Muzaffarpur, Motihari, Bettiah, and Siwan. These standalone BESS units will store electricity during off-peak hours and supply power during peak demand. This will reduce energy costs and increase grid efficiency.
“The double engine government is committed to the all-round development of Bihar. Today I am very happy to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of projects worth thousands of crores of rupees from Siwan,” The PM wrote in a post on X.
He is scheduled to visit Odisha later today. He will inaugurate infrastructure projects in the state. Then he will lead the International Day of Yoga celebrations from the beachfront at Visakhapatnam on 21st June.
