Political Tensions Escalate in Bihar After Murders of Two Police Officers in Two Days
Bihar has been rocked by consecutive killings of police personnel. The first killing happened in Araria and the second in Munger. This has sparked political turmoil in the state. The latest case involves the brutal murder of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Santosh Kumar in Munger. He arrived at the scene to mediate a dispute between two groups. Members of one party attacked him. The assailants repeatedly struck him with a rod. Then they dragged his severely injured body nearly 40 meters. They abandoned it at another doorstep before fleeing.
Bihar was once a cradle of knowledge and culture. Now, it grapples with multiple crises. These include floods, poverty, crumbling infrastructure, and unemployment. The state also faces a failing education and healthcare system. In addition, law and order are deteriorating. The land of great historical figures like Gautam Buddha, Mahavira, Chandragupta Maurya, and Emperor Ashoka is now marred by crime. Aryabhatta and Rajendra Prasad also came from this land. Violence tarnishes their legacy. Murders, kidnappings, lootings, and gang wars are alarmingly common in broad daylight. The people of Bihar live under constant fear. This raises an urgent question: Is this the reality of so-called good governance?
The recent killings of two ASIs within a span of three days have intensified political confrontations in Bihar. Just days before the Munger incident, another ASI was lynched in Araria while attempting to arrest a suspect. The disturbing pattern has drawn sharp reactions from political parties.
Opposition party RJD has criticized the Nitish Kumar-led government, questioning its ability to maintain law and order. Meanwhile, the BJP has suggested that the opposition is attempting to destabilize the state through conspiracies. Elections are approaching at the end of the year. Every criminal incident is expected to pose a serious challenge for the ruling administration.
In response to the Munger incident, Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha expressed condolences and assured firm action against crime. He stated that the government is committed to ensuring law and order. The government will take strict measures to bring criminals to justice. These measures include encounters if necessary.
The ASI was murdered in Munger. Following this, the police took swift action. They claim to have killed one of the accused in an encounter. Four suspects have been arrested so far, but the main accused, Ranbir Yadav, remains at large. The repeated attacks on police officers are alarming. They raise serious concerns about the growing audacity of criminals in the state. These attacks also jeopardize the safety of both law enforcement and the general public.
Congress MP Tariq Anwar has blamed the BJP and NDA for Bihar’s worsening law and order situation. He accused them of prioritizing political gains over governance. He also alleged that the BJP fuels tensions, especially during festivals, to create instability.
Crime is spiraling out of control, and political tensions are rising. The people of Bihar are left wondering when this bloodshed will end. How long will fear dictate their lives? And will crime remain just another statistic in political debates?
