Demands for YouTube Channel Shutdown & Investigation
Rahool Kanal, a Shiv Sena functionary, has accused stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra of serious allegations. He claims Kamra receives terrorist funding to promote anti-government propaganda. Kanal was previously arrested for vandalizing The Habitat Studio. This was over Kamra’s alleged remarks against Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. He has now vowed to present evidence supporting his claims.
Kanal took to social media platform X. He accused Kamra of being a “puppet.” People use Kamra to criticize Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They also criticize Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and other top government officials. He stated that India’s growing global economic stature as the world’s fifth-largest economy is being undermined by such alleged activities.
Plans to Submit Evidence to Authorities
Kanal announced his intention to submit a formal request for the demonetization and shutdown of Kamra’s YouTube channel. He plans to present alleged proof at Khar police station and later approach YouTube’s office to demand action.
His post on X detailed three key demands:
- Demonetization of Kunal Kamra’s YouTube channel to block any financial transactions.
- Submission of over 300 screenshots of alleged payments received after Kamra’s videos criticizing government figures.
- Investigation into financial sources, alleging links to Canadian accounts and Khalistani funding.
Kanal further urged the Mumbai Police to scrutinize these transactions and take immediate action.
Call for Immediate Action
In a follow-up post, Kanal reiterated his commitment to taking the issue forward. He urged Mumbai Police to verify the claims. They should act accordingly. He also announced plans to serve a notice to YouTube, demanding a response within 24 hours.
The controversy adds a new dimension to the ongoing friction between political figures and satirists in India. It has potential legal implications. It also has digital platform implications.
