In a case that has shocked the nation, Sonam Raghuvanshi is newly married to Raja Raghuvanshi. She is at the center of a chilling murder plot. Investigations have revealed that Sonam had allegedly conspired to kill her husband months before their wedding. The plot was hatched with her lover Raj Kushwaha and executed with the help of hired killers.
Months of Planning and a Web of Lies
Sonam and Raj had been romantically involved for four to five months. To the outside world, Raj referred to Sonam as his “sister” to avoid suspicion. Execution Team and Deadly Planning
Raj brought in three accomplices: Vishal Chauhan, Akash Rajput, and Anand Kurmi. He provided them with ₹50,000, new SIM cards, and two mobile phones. These items were used to stay in touch with Sonam. On May 16, the murder plan was finalized over a six-hour phone call between Sonam and Raj.
Honeymoon Turned Into a Murder Trip
Though a honeymoon to Shillong wasn’t originally planned, Sonam manipulated Raja into agreeing. On May 20, the couple reached Guwahati and visited Kamakhya Temple. Unbeknownst to Raja, Sonam had already informed the killers, who were waiting nearby in a homestay.
The Killers Close In
On May 22, Sonam told Raj about their departure for Shillong. Raj, who initially planned to join, backed out at the last moment but kept giving directions over the phone. The killers ordered an axe online from Guwahati, which would become the murder weapon.
Sonam provided live location updates. The killers rented a bike and began trailing the couple. On May 23, she took Raja Raghuvanshi to a remote hill in Korasa for a “photoshoot.”
A Ruthless Murder on the Hillside
Pretending to be tired, Sonam slowed her pace and let the killers approach Raja. When they hesitated, Sonam reportedly took ₹15,000 from Raja’s wallet and handed it to the killers. She urged them to proceed with the killing. She promised ₹20 lakh later.
At 1:30 PM, the crime unfolded. Vishal struck Raja Raghuvanshi on the head with the axe. Akash kept watch from another rented bike, and Anand helped in the assault. As Raja turned towards Sonam for help, she allegedly shouted, “Kill him!” and then pushed him into the gorge—while he was still alive.
Cover-Up and Escape
After the murder, Sonam smashed both her and Raja’s phones and began her journey back—alone. She reached Guwahati, then Varanasi, and eventually Gahzipur. Her plan was to flee to Nepal.
The Police Crack the Case
A CCTV clip showing Sonam chatting near Raja moments before the murder raised suspicions. Her call records linked her to Raj and the hired killers. Digital trails and financial links—including a Paytm account in Raj’s name—helped crack the conspiracy.
On Sunday evening, Shillong Crime Branch DSP Vipul Das arrived in Indore and, along with local police, raided multiple locations. Raj and Vishal were arrested from Indore, while Akash and Anand were nabbed from Lalitpur and Khimlasa respectively.
Sonam Surrenders
By the time Sonam reached Gahzipur, she received news of Raj’s arrest. Shaken, she broke down at a roadside eatery and asked to use the owner’s phone. She called her brother, confessed, and surrendered to the local police.
