Yogi Government Approves 20% Reservation for Agniveers in Police Recruitment

In a significant policy move, the Uttar Pradesh government has made an important announcement. They have announced 20% reservation for former Agniveers in police and PAC (Provincial Armed Constabulary) recruitment. This decision was approved during a state cabinet meeting held on Tuesday under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Additional Age Relaxation of Three Years

Eligible Agniveers will receive an age relaxation of up to three years. This is applicable for applying to various posts within the state police services along with the reservation quota. This includes positions such as constable in the civil police, PAC, mounted police, and fire services.

Reservation Across All Categories

Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna explained that this 20% reservation will apply within all existing reservation categories. For example, if an Agniveer belongs to the Scheduled Caste (SC) category, the quota will be applied within that category. Similarly, the benefit will extend to Other Backward Classes (OBC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) accordingly.

Objective: Ensuring Career Continuity for Agniveers

Minister Khanna emphasized the primary aim of this decision. It is to offer meaningful employment opportunities to Agniveers. This applies to those who complete their four-year service period under the Agnipath scheme. He noted that this step would provide them a dignified path into public service. This path is structured to follow their tenure in the armed forces.

First Recruitment Batch Expected in 2026

The recruitment process under this new reservation policy is expected to begin with the 2026 batch. The implementation timeline ensures proper coordination at the end of Agniveers’ service terms. It also aligns with their potential entry into the state police force.

UP Sets a New Benchmark in Agniveer Integration

Several states like Haryana and Odisha have offered 10% reservation for former Agniveers in government jobs. Uttar Pradesh has gone a step further. It has approved a 20% quota. This makes it one of the most generous state-level policies for Agniveer reintegration into civilian roles.
