Kohli’s Emotional IPL 2025 Win Shared with RCB Icons AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle

A Long-Awaited Triumph for RCB

Virat Kohli finally lifted the Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy in 2025. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) clinched a thrilling six-run win over Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Ahmedabad. The victory was even more emotional for Kohli. Two RCB legends, AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle, were alongside him during the celebrations.

Reuniting the ‘Holy Trinity’

The trio, once fondly referred to as RCB’s “holy trinity,” reunited on the field after the match. They had a heartfelt chat with broadcasters. Reviving the team’s iconic slogan, they chanted a new version of the old war cry — transforming “Ee sala cup namde” (This time the cup will be ours) into “Ee sala, cup namdu!” (This time, the cup is ours).

A Tribute to AB de Villiers’ Legacy

Kohli became visibly emotional while speaking about AB de Villiers, his long-time teammate and batting partner at RCB. “What he’s done for this team is incredible,” Kohli said. “I told him before the final — this trophy is as much his as it is ours. I wanted him there, on that stage, celebrating with us.”

Kohli went on to highlight de Villiers’ unmatched impact on RCB. He pointed out that de Villiers still holds the most Man of the Match awards for the franchise. This is despite him retiring four years ago. “That shows how influential he was. It was not just for the team. He was influential for me personally and for the fans in Bengaluru.”

The Final Over and an Emotional Glance

As pacer Josh Hazlewood began defending 28 runs in the final over, Kohli noticed de Villiers. He was standing just beyond the boundary. De Villiers was preparing for post-match broadcast duties. He admitted that catching a glimpse of his old teammate during that decisive moment made the victory even more meaningful.

Recognition for Gayle and the Bond with the Fans

Speaking about Chris Gayle, Kohli emphasized the deep emotional bond all three players share with the franchise and its supporters. “We gave our best years to this team. That pain of falling short for so long — we all felt it together. And now, to finally lift that trophy, with these two legends by my side — it means the world.”

He added that the love from fans wasn’t just reserved for him. It extended just as deeply to de Villiers and Gayle. “When they visit Bangalore, the city goes crazy. That’s how much they mean to the people. They gave their all for RCB. This win belongs to them too.”

Kohli: ‘It’s Their Victory Too’

In a heartfelt conclusion, Kohli reiterated that the historic win was not his alone. “This moment feels ten times more special because AB and Chris are here. They deserve this as much as I do. This is our collective journey, and this title belongs to all of us.”
